Shenzhen China’s first Special Economic Zone, was just a small town with some 30K people in 1980. Shenzhen’s name refers to the Deep Drain that used to be near the village. Initially a manufacturing hub for processed food textile electronics pharmaceuticals and building materials, Shenzhen has shifted towards the service industry to be a vibrant financial and technologyhub.
